Addy donned her blue sundress and looked at herself in a mirror. She winced. The girl had bought it three days ago, thinking that it would be a change of pace to wear a dress once in a while. Addy never had before; not at the orphanage, and not when she was living with Edna. The garment fit her well; Addy was sure of that. But it was a lower cut that she was used to, and the straps were as thin as spaghetti. It went down to the top of her knee caps.
It's pretty. Addy had thought as she bought it. Now she mentally added, Too bad I'm not.
But Addy would wear it, even if it killed her. She carefully braided her hair into two braids and found her sun hat and sandals. Her expression was nervous as she exited the house, with two cloth shopping bags filled with a towel and a picnic of sorts. She headed down her street, turning when she reached her new neighbor's house. Addy hesistated before knocking, setting the shopping bags at her feet and waiting for a reply she almost hoped wouldn't come.

Cody opened the door to his new... well, Ruby's new, home. He was looking over his shoulder as he opened the door, and when he turned to face his visitor, he found a surprise. "You look nice." he blurted, still not entirely over his awkward teenager phase. He looked down at the beach bags, " I mean...what do you have there?" he asked.

Addy looked confused. It was a day of new experiences indeed. No one had ever told her she looked nice either. You too. she said, laughing in spite of her nervousness at wearing a dress. I was just wondering if you'd like to go to the beach. she said, meeting his purple eyes squarely, and noticing how unusual they were. Unless you're busy, or something. she added, giving him a fair way to back out like Addy always did.

Cody smiled and looked behind him, "I don't think I'm busy. I wasn't doing anything before. Let me go check." Cody walked over to where Ruby sat, and looked at the floor, "Can I... can I go to the beach with Addy?" he asked.

Ruby looked up from her map of the city. She had been trying to decide the best place for a sewing shop, close enough to the palace to cause notice with the nobles, but not as expensive as the lots right next to the palace. It also needed to be close to Market so average citizens could access it and would know (by the location) that the prices would still be reasonable. She had eight lots circled for further viewing, and had been about to circle a ninth when Cody had inquired about a beach trip. Certainly. How's about tomorrow we go around the city, looking at these lots? she asked. Rubes scooted the bottle of red wine that the man from the reality office had given to her (an old suitor, though not too old to forget "Margaret's fancy of fine wine" who was also the man who had gotten them such a large house on such short notice.) off of the corner of the map where it had operated as a paper weight and held up the large map, with it's tiny squares of different colors indicating the kind of lot that the space occupied and whether or not it was vacant.

Cody looked over at the paper, then at the wine. He grinned, "Sounds brilliant, love you...got to go!" he said, as if she were his sibling. Cody made a detour to his room, grabbed a (bathing suit?) and a (towel?) and sped back to the door. "I'm...back...let's...go." he panted and shut the door behind him as he walked over to her.

Ruby's eyes were surprised; the boy had never uttered 'i love you', or any form of it, to her before. She smiled, then looked back down at her map, circling the ninth location.
Addy smiled at the boy's return and walked towards the beach beside him. Shep decided to stay home with the kittens today. she told him, just to make conversation. How are you lot settling in? Do you like Kaiden? she asked, looking at the boy walking beside her with casual interest, her bag swinging at her side.

(casual interest...teehee)
Cody looked up at Addy. He had been looking at his feet as he walked, not quite sure what to say. As she asked him about setteling in, it finally hit him that he wasn't on the land for only a few days. He wasn't going back to the ship where he had stayed for what seemed to be his life, but in reality so much shorter. Cody looked thoughtful as he thought about the question and answered, "It's been quite an experiance. I was thinking of starting up a shop..." Cody blushed, "A, uh...Sewing shop..." he said a little quiter, hoping his voice got lost in the noise of the town.

Addy looked down, doing her best to conceal her laughter, but failing miserably. You're full of surprises, Cody. she managed after a moment, wiping her streaming eyes, full of tears of laughter. I'm sorry. Addy said. It's not funny. She touched his arm, and looked up at him. The look up was a far one, he must have been at least three inches taller than her. She smiled sincerely, staring deep into his violet eyes. I think it's great. I can only sew very basic things, like a cat bed I made once. It took me weeks and it was very sloppy, but cats don't mind too much.
She then looked around and realized she had stopped walking, and was still touching his arm. She tore her hand off of him, as if she had been burned at the meeting of their skin, and began walking again, ignoring the heat in her face.
((the arm seems to be Addy's area of expertise... she must like Cody's manly forearms. XD))

Cody looked at his arm and shrugged. He caught up with Addie and tried to pick up the converation, "So...what's your job? Did you tell me already? I bet you did. I so sorry...I don't have a very good memory..." Cody decided to stop talking.

It's fine, I don't think I told you. Right now I'm working down near the docks at a fish stall owned by a man named Roy Tomes. The hours are early, but it's great because I'm free during the day. He's a great employer, too. Really generous and friendly. My cats love the fish I bring home for them, too. she said, smiling. I won't get rich by doing it, but it sustains me and the animals, and that's all that matters too me right now. she told the boy. The had reached the sandy shore, the waves crashing upon the warm sand lazily, mirroring the people who rested on the beach. I haven't been to the beach since last summer. Addy commented. Shep loves the ocean, but hates the sand. she laughed. She set her towel down and put the bagged food on top of it, then sat on the sand, closing her eyes and soaking up the warm sun's rays for a moment before opening one and looking up at Cody. Do you want to eat now or later? she asked curiously, not caring much either way.

Cody looked at the bag of food, wishing he had brought something to share too. He didn't like recieving things unless he had something to give, also. Cody decided he would bring Addie something later on. "Uh, er... what is it?" he asked.

Sandwiches, salads, meat pies, fruit, garlic bread, regular bread, cheese... and for dessert, those tasty little fruit turnovers that the lady two blocks down from us sells. Addy said, as she dug through the bag, unable to remember exactly what she had bought. The food was much more than the two of them could possibly eat. More than they could possible eat in three days, probably. But Addy didn't know what Cody liked, so she had bought a little of everything.

Cody's eyes widened. He hadn't seen so much food (that wasn't stale or oversalted) in a long time. The smells of each food waifted up to meet Cody's nose, teasing his stomach and making it growl. Cody smiled at Addy, "Anyone else coming that I don't know about?" he asked, looking around jokingly.

She laughed warmly, No, I don't think so... I just wasn't sure what you liked... So I bought it all. she told him, laughing again. But if you aren't hungry now, we can go in the water... I don't really care. she said, looking down at her hands, and frowning. She looked up at him, You've probably spent more time at the beach than you've ever wanted to, huh? she asked, smiling. She wasn't sure how it worked on pirate ships, but it seemed like they would spend a lot of time on the sand, unloading loot or whatever it was pirates did.
