Tom took a dep breath, drawing back the tears. Orignally I think it was just the money but they seemed more determined after they found out that Luke was Leon. He sighed, I might as well have signed his death warrant. His head fell into his hands and his shoulders shook with the force of the sobs. Tom have never cried before, not in front of anyone anyway, not since his father. The thought came into his head, why was he so scared of these men? He had fought of other threats to the orphanage...Was it realy because they reminded him of his father? A short laugh burst from his lips, in between sobs, as he thought of that. What a stupid question to ask himself when he already knew the answer...

((I like stories!!))
Addy took Tom into her arms, holding him to her and rubbed his back gently. There's always a way to make things better. Always. she soothed softly, though she was deeply frightened by his sobbing. He had always been a tough, calm face in front of her, and this change was frightening. It's going to be fine. Does Luke know? Does he know that men are after him? she asked quietly.

Tom calmed somewhat as Addy held him. I don't think so and thats what scares me... He took a deep breath and pulled himself from her arms. I'm sorry Addy, I shouldn't break down like this but...those guys...they... His eyes glazed slightly with fear as he thought about them and he stared past Addy.

((Why don't you just spoil it for me? WHY CAN'T YOU EVER SPOIL ANYTHING UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE?!?!? just kidding, love... I don't mind too much. It's more exciting this way, I guess... But that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it!))
It's alright, Tom. Addy assured him. You're going through a rough time, it's understandable. I know it may seem like you're all alone in this, but I'll help you in anyway I can. And I've Shep for protection. she said, looking down at the dog lovingly, his hair covering his eyes. Fluffy he was, but merciful he was not. She pet him with fingers that caressed lovingly, right behind his ears where he liked it.
We should tell him before it's too late. she told Tom, thinking to herself, Every minute we waste could be one minute too many... But she refused to voice the though to Tom. He didn't need the extra burden.

Tom nodded slowly, I know, and I've tried but they....found me and... he broke off. I have to try again and I'll need your help but...I don't want you to get hurt. He gave her a look, And don't give me the 'I have Shep for protection.' What kind of protection will he be against a gun and men like that who'll... It seemed as though his past was affecting him in this far more than he would like it too. Addy, I'm being watched and I don't want you hurt because of me.[/b]

Addy put her hands up to her face, breathing deeply and rubbing her temples. Shep growled at Tom's comment, hearing his name used with a negative tone. Addy gave him the hand signal for relax and he did so, glaring silently at Tom. Addy scooted left towards Tom, beckoning for Shep to sit on her right, which the dog did willingly, laying his head on Addy's leg and sighing. Addy's mind ran through the situation quickly. Opening her mouth to respond, she paused, trying to calm herself. I grew up in the same orphanage you did, Tom. Do you think that I was any safer than those children are now? Any safer than you were growing up? Why would I train a dog for combat unless I've witnessed it? Been a part of it? I've seen things that I wish I haven't. I know what's out there firsthand, Tom. she said, tapping Shep's head so he'd lift it off her leg.
Addy sat on the ground before Tom, kneeling to see eye to eye with him, her dark ones serious. If I'm helping you, I won't stay on the sidelines. I don't know what we're up against, but I want to know every detail you do. You need to trust my ability and my knowledge. If you can't do that, then I'm out. You can worry about me, but you can't get yourself hurt protecting me. You might think I'm young and stupid, but I can handle myself as well as anyone. she told him, her eyes bright with determination. She neared his face, closer and closer until their faces were mere inches apart. She could feel his breath warm on her face as she put her hands on his knees to support herself. Can I have your word, Tom? she murmured, Your word. she breathed, meeting his eyes, her own full of an overbearing, unknown emotion that Addy herself couldn't be sure of.

Tom took Addy's hands in his as their gazes locked. He held there for a few moments, forever it seemed. Simply staring at her, the girl he had considered his little sister for so long. He loved her yes, but just as a sister right? RIGHT?! In that moment, he suddenly leaned forwards and embraced her tightly. You have my word Addy, but I WILL do my best to protect you. He took her face in his hands, I will ALWAYS be tehre for you you know that right? No matter what! The care and dedication in his eyes intermingled with the fear and the haunted look that had been prominent for the past few days. He would not allow those men to lay their hands on Addy, the may have done so to him, but never to her.

She returned his embrace, struck silent with amazement at his protectiveness over her. She realized that she must mean something to him, and that meant the world to Addy. His warmth and his distinct form pressing against her made Addy's heart beat quick, but not with romantic notions. It sped up with the worry she felt for him, in the dangerous situations they'd be up against. She hoped she'd never touch him to find him stone cold, death cold. The tendrils of death must never pull Tom away from her. She'd do all she could to keep him safe.
When he took her face in his hands, she forgot to blush. The moment was too serious, too important. Even if his lips were before her, looming in the twilight half-darkness that had formed outside. I know that, Tom. she whispered, her eyes appearing darker, full of trust. I hope someday you'll trust me, too. she thought, but dared not to say. Instead, what left her mouth was a quiet, hesitant, I love you. She nearly winced at the words, which sounded alien on her young lips. She had never uttered the phrase before, and never meant it more than she could have possibly now.
She wanted to struggle away from the hands on her face, perhaps run and turn on lights, but her body was unwilling to move now, waiting in earnest to see what he'd do. Her eyes never left his, seemingly by their own accord, for Addy wanted nothing more than to look to the ground in embarrassment. There was always the chance that Tom would ignore the comment, perhaps pretend not to have heard it, and Addy wished with all her might that he would do so, not dreaming of a more positive response.

Tom smiled and spoke softly, I know Addy and I love you too. It was obvious by his tone that he had simply thought she meant it in a kind of family love way. He stood, pulling her with him. He manouvered her to the door, Go on, we both need to get some sleep, and I'm taking the couch. He gave a trademark smirk before turning back and sititng on the couch.

((that's alright, it was a good reply... You just didn't give me much to work with... XD))
Addy laughed, her mood light hearted as he took her towards a door. That's one of the spare bedrooms, Tom. she told him, peering at him on the couch. She strode towards him, looking carefully to be sure there weren't any cats before plunging down beside Tom, saying. You are so not. I'm taking the couch, and you'll sleep in my bed. The sheets are clean, have no fear... You won't get any Addy bugs from sleeping there, she said, tickling his side. Go on. she said, more serious now. You're my guest. I've never had a guest before. And I'm sleeping on this couch whether you like it or not. There might be room for both of us- she shrugged, an evil glint in her eye. But I think you'll be more comfortable on my bed. she said, poking him in the side. She grabbed a throw pillow from an armchair and hugged it to her chest, watching him.

Tom squirmed as she poked him in the sides. He gave a short giggle-like laugh. He poked her in return and then threw himself down on the couch, taking up the space behind Addy with his legs. Unfortunately, I'm already here. He spoke with a laugh. His grin beamed at her.

((where's te muse, Dagger?))
Good point. You win. she said. But if you're here tomorrow night, you'll get the comfy bed, okay? she asked, her eyes pleading. She grabbed him several pillows and walked to a closet, grabbing him a light blanket. The nights were still warm in Kaiden, so he wouldn't need much. Let's hope the cats don't bother you too much; I'll tell them not to. she said. Thinking of all her animals made her wonder what she'd do with them all when they went searching for Dagger. She'd bring them along, she supposed. Laughing at the thought of nine cats following her single file, Addy set the blanket at Tom's feet and handed him the pillows.
Nighty, Tom. she said, standing above him with a smile on her face.

Tom gave a triumphant smirk and snuggled the pillows under his head. He raised one hand and took Addy's, bringing it to his lips and giving it a gentle kiss. G'night Addy He smiled and watched her. Hopefully tonight he woudn't be plagued by the nightmares. It wasn't something he would like Addy to see.

((Is he gunna have bad dreams? Or should we end the thread??))
She smiled slightly, a dimple appearing in her right cheek. She ruffled his hair slightly as she passed, then whistled for her cats and Shep to come with her. Most of them did; but a cat or two snuggled beneath Tom's hand, glad for his warmth. Five cats and a dog surrounded Addy as she got into bed, patting the space beside her to encourage any animal to join her. Shep eagerly jumped up, then gingerly sat down, careful not to smash any felines as always. Remy snuggled in his favorite spot in the crook of her neck, and she kissed him before going to sleep, amid many purring animals.
